I had a CRT HERCULE in the past (year 1998-2000).
It was really a great CB transceiver. audio was clear and it was easy to use. it's simply a RCI2950 look like a base station.

My favorite CB:
RCI2950 and all like that (hercule, 2970,...)

Hi Simon,

Please keep us informed about this big one. I used a HAM Jumbo 3 in the past. Great looking radio but the performance was not matching my quality request. The President Jackson did a better job those day's.

Hi Flip,

Well, the interim thoughts is that the modded version as this is performs well indeed. The rx is excellent and they have made the modulation and also the rx more signal and less noise than the standard version.

This is a RCI2970DX inside, 24-32mhz and now variable to 100w AM/FM from around 4w and SSB from around 8w to 126w SSB on the peak with this model.

This  has the optional external twin fans that sit on the back and are connected via the 12v socket, so the radio does run incredibly cool Very Happy

Should be some more videos there sooner rather than later, will pop them here if Gui and Eric are fine with it

I like to play with this one, I did a small test once in the past with a RCI2950DX and a TS50 (on 11 meter). The RCI worked slightly better on the RX.

I bought a little INTEK SS201 (same as ALBRECHT,...)
it's a portable AM/FM/SSB from 26 to 30MHz, 6 watts pep SSB, 4 w AM/FM
It look very nice for portable operation.
I used it in foot portable last week end, on the french coast, i received 26RCB044 Terry at R/S: 2/0
There is a small antenna on it, about 20cm only.
the only one problem is that QRG stability is not good...go to +/- 300Hz depending on temperature.
Anyway, for a small funny party on Effel tower, it must be very exciting !!! Wink

Hi Gui, Yes that is indeed the Dragon 201 that was re-named the Albrecht and also other names amongst others. QRG stability can be changed with a few small jobs and then the radio will work well. My friend Peter 329DQ201 has one and each year he heads to Mallorca and with him he takes this same radio, adds a 1/4 antenna and a small 25w amp and he has worked the world with this station, and indeed it works well.

Sad Facts:

At lunch once with the owner of President I asked him about making a version and he told there was not enough profit there.
Albrecht told me the same news, there is too much cost and not enough profit for them, and NO DEMAND

With the last point Bannir  ebay here they are selling anything upto 300 euros and lots of people bidding on them so trust me there is a demand indeed.

For sure ! there is enormous demand ! I paid it 150 euros, I made 130 km to go take it, I needed to pay cash and very quickly because 4 other DX'ers wanted it !
anyway, i don't regret because for a special expedition, it will help me a lot !
I remember when I was in west France,  a QSO with a OM in East France, Alsace, who called me from his home with this kind of TX. report were 4/2 but it was very very pleasant ! we exchange the QSL !! he said me it was the longest DX he made with it (with original antenna)
I'll try to make a video....

There is indeed a huge demand here Gui, and they are selling anything up to 440euro, thats the most expensive that have seen and for some expeditions they are excellent and so small it is easy to carry, like I mentioned about my friend before. I will wait any video, must be excellent to see and Cool  anytime am happy to work you on the air.

Have a nice evening Gui

Simon !
I have a question !
like I see that you test many radio material, what do you think of the ICOM7000 ????
Do you believe that it's better to use than a ICOM706MKIIG ????
I had a ICOM7000 during 2 days at home but I didn't like so much it....anyway, I didn't test it anough time !
What I don't like is that you need to know this RTX at 100% to use it !
the parrot is very good ! but when you use parrot, you can't have access easily to VFO A/B !!! only for this...don't like...
and some birds in the modulation....strange, isn't it ????

Hello Gui,

I don't own a 7000 (only a 706MKIIG) but I know that the receiver of the 7000 is better than the 706.
The 706 has some problems with receiving on some frequencies, it receives broadcast stations that aren't on those frequencies (some problems with intermodulation) certainly with the preamp on. The receiver is not sensitive. (the 7000 is more sensitive in my opinion) and not able to handle very strong signals.

Many functions on the 7000 are the same as the 706 (M1,M2,M3 etc.)

I haven't got any problems with the 706 on 11m (so far so good)  Okay

I hope this helped you a bit  Wink

Yes, the 706 have a problem of transmodulation but only on VHF/UHF.
Selectivity is VERY Bad in these modes.
When I use VHF, I use a FT857D which is very more selective, no problem with strong reports.
It could be fine to do a test 706 vs 7000 on youtube, with 1 antenna and a switch antenna....as we could see in direct difference with low reports....

The 7000 beats the 706 with all hands down. The noise blanker is more efficient and can kill many noises. Transmitted audio is also better, there are issues with the fan and indeed the radio gets incredible hot. This can be cured with some modifications. I am the first to say I was VERY suprised that the radio was as good as it is. I am a new man to Icom but like mine, it does all that can ask of it and has made me some nice new reports. True, mine is ran at 13% of power so it not get so hot and also it fits with the amplifier better. Mr. Green

Can just say, i like mine

Simon,

I saw your video of the Albrecht AE485S on youtube. What do you think about this trx for mobile use?
Maybe I'll buy one, because it is a little transceiver... But I don't know if it works fine.

tnx
